“We were living in Manhattan and our lease was approaching the end that summer. Memorial Day weekend, I came up with this crazy idea of a Manhattan summer bucket list. Together we made the list and the first item was my idea; a picnic in Central Park. Mike asked to start knocking items off the list the following weekend and said we should start from the top. So later that week we ordered a picnic basket and blanket and said he would get all our favorite snacks ready to go.
When our picnic day finally arrived, Mike was giddy. He was psyched for the picnic, which was strange because I mentioned it several times before and he never had the desire to go. When I asked him what part of the park we were going to sit, Mike said he knew a secret spot he wanted to show me, which was normal because Mike is always my natural tour guide of Manhattan. Before I knew it, we were at this awesome castle in the middle of the park. I was jumping up and down acting like a complete tourist asking strangers to take pictures of us and begging Mike to climb with me all the way to the top. He was strangely calm and told me to keep moving. He said there were too many people in the castle and he wanted to find a spot in the shade where we could view the castle from afar.
When we finally set up camp, Mike said he had 3 surprises for me and asked which one I wanted first. I don’t think it really mattered which I chose because at that very moment he began to ask me if I knew why we were really there that day. Giving him a very confused look, with the both of us shaking now, Mike held my hands and began to explain how much he loved me, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Extremely ecstatic, we hugged and kissed and popped a fancy bottle of champagne. He then told me that our parents were waiting for us at my favorite Italian restaurant for dinner and my friends were on their way out to celebrate after. Mike’s final surprise was having an appointment ready the following weekend at the Pleasantdale, the venue of our dreams which is where we are now getting married.” – The bride to be, future Mrs. Scerbo
