The Proposal:
“August 12, 2014 it was my 25th birthday and Jake decided he was going to propose while we were in Wildwood with both of our families. I had previously boasted that “it never rains on my birthday!” setting him up for the perfect beach proposal. He got up early that day so that he could show my dad the ring and ask him for my hand in marriage. Well, to his surprise my dad had fallen asleep on the couch so he went out to get me coffee and flowers and surprise me when I woke up. Unfortunately, so excited for my birthday I woke up extra early that day as well. Over the course of the day he tried to find a free minute with my dad again but was unsuccessful. Because of this he kept putting off the proposal and it became a pouring dreary day. However, he couldn’t wait until the next day. Every time we went to his parents house they were bursting trying to keep the secret in. On our way to dinner he just had to do it. So he drove down to the beach and pulled over. Finally, in the pouring rain in his Ford he gave me a card that said everything he needed to say and surprised me with a beautiful ring. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to share it with my family. Then, he said to me “but you have to give it back because I didn’t get a chance to ask your dad yet.” He was serious! But I was having no part of that and we told my family at dinner and were able to celebrate with both our families over birthday cake that evening. Needless to say my 25th birthday was definitely one I will never forget!” – Lauren Edwards
